Throughout the year there were festivals and fasting, solemnities and minor anniversaries, with the active and heartfelt participation of the majority of the Gorizian Jews. Everyone shared in family celebrations and losses, united with their friends in joy and in pain. And, while the funeral procession all too frequently followed the Community’s hearse towards Valdirose, Bar Mitzvahs seldom took place, and weddings were rarer still […]. And even if it meant calling upon all of the remaining Jews after the War, it was still possible to gather together the requisite number of people to recite the prayer to commemorate the dead.
