“Regular daily functions were held until 1943 due to the efforts of Attilio Morpurgo z.l., the diligent, combative President of the Jewish Community in that difficult period. After Liberation, Community life experienced a short-lived recovery due to the presence and assistance of the American Jewish soldiers who were stationed in Gorizia, and led by the military chaplain rabbis Barack and Elefant. Later only occasional offices were available, due to the willingness of the few Jews remaining in the city, especially those from Trieste, to whose Community Gorizia has now been joined.”
