Isaac Samuel Reggio

On 15 August 1784, less than a year after her wedding day, Mrs Malchina gave birth to the son she had prayed to God for, and who would later become the illustrious Izhak Scemuel Reggio. To satisfy both parents, he was given the double name Isacco Samuele, which he many years later would shorten to Jaschar.
This double name had its own story.

The father wished to call his son Isacco, to honour the patriarch of the same name. His mother wished instead to call him Samuele because she said, like Anna: ‘I asked for him from God and to God I will dedicate him’.”
